The Wonderous Dark Sky
I could walk this earth for 1000 years and still not be able to see what the Lord wants me to do, or where he wants me to go. Isn't it wonderful?
Did you ever just look at the night sky at all of the stars and just wonder about this universe? What a magnificent place. Did you know that our solar system is in one of the farthest spiral arms in the Milky way Galaxy? Our Galaxy is one of thousands, each filled with uncountable stars and planets.
I look up into the darkness of space and see God. Don't you? I look at the snow capped mountain and see God. I hear the songs of the birds or the whisper of the wind through the tree tops and I hear His voice. No, I am not worshiping His creation, but rather seeing Him in his creation. What a joy to be able to sit on the shore of some river and listen to its waters pass by. What a wonder to sit and watch a humming bird hoover and drink the nectar of a flower, or even feel the warmth of a star some 93 million miles away. God, spans the universe beyond all that we can know or understand.
I once took a class in which doctors of theology explained the "Eight models of God." Wow I thought, these men are so smart, so knowledgeable, so much so that they could contain God into eight individually wrapped packages. I wondered to myself, how could they even begin to limit God in such a way. A creator that from the very beginning of time spread out His hands and commanded the very creation of the universe, lite every star on fire, and set in motion every moving thing in the universe. He did so with out the aid of a slide rule or a supercomputer for that matter. He thought, and therefore it was. God is limitless. Who are we to place limits on Him, to dictate what was, what is, and what will be? I wonder, did the Jewish leaders 2000 years ago also limit God? Yes they did.
Do we really know God? Yes, we have the bible, or any other religious writings, regardless of what religion we follow, can we say, "God inhabits this porcelain figurine, this hollow clay idol, this gold statue?" Can we say that God says we must be baptized before we go to heaven? If so, then how do you explain the thief on the cross, was he baptized? What of the man that confessed his sins, to which Jesus said he was justified? Yet this was before Jesus was Crucified and risen. Again, who are we to limit what God can and cannot do, who He will and will not save?
We are but lowly humans, His creation, and we can only obey or disobey our Father. We can choose to believe, or not to believe, we can share the message and we can pray. That is all that we can do. What else do you want to do? I seek to humble myself before the Lord, confessing that I know nothing, and in fact, the more I know, the more I realize I know nothing. The infinite universe can only be contained in the mind of God. I can only perceive a grain of sand, if I am lucky.
As hard as it is, I must walk faithfully forward, step by step, placig one foot in front of the other assured that when my foot lands it will land solidly on a rock. Easier said than done. I pray that He will give me strenght to walk forward with absolute assurance. I pray that I will do His will, and be able to discern my will from His. I pray that I can turn total control of my life over to Him.
